If you currently have a job and they do not allow you to be employed by anyone else......can you ---->? |
can you be the "vice-president, president, or secretary" of a corporation? Would you just be unable to collect a salary? Does being vice president mean you're an employee, owner, both, or something else? If you answer this, please tell me how you know or what are your resources. I need something reliable. Thank you for your time. If they don't want you to work elsewhere, then it is probably something to do with either a non-competitive clause or a conflict of interest situation. Where I work, we have to disclose conflicts of interest, and there are restrictions on our outside employment. We have to check ahead of time with our employer to see if a proposed post violates our agreement. All of the titles you've noted are director or officer titles for corporations. If you are also a shareholder, then you could be considered an owner. I would suggest that you talk to your employer to see if what you're thinking of violates the agreement. I wouldn't recommend inventing some sort of title or relationship as a way to circumvent their policies. Shareholders are owners of a corporation. Then a company will need officers such as a director, administrator and a secretary. The shareholder can name other people to these functions or assume these functions themselves. We call them member of the board. They are not employees at this point. Then a company will need a president, a vice-president or many vice-presidents, we call them higher executives and also the company will need chef of operations, directors of department we call intermediate executives. They are all employees A shareholder (owner of the company) can be a president therefore he is the owner of the company and also an employee he declares himself a salary. The owner of the company can take the title he wants. In my company I am the vice-president and my president is also the owner of the company, his title is President & CEO. (Chef executive officer) meaning he has all the title of the board. Also I have a small company of my own, I am the the only shareholder, i`m the officer and the president but i`m not an employee, I declare devidends not a salary. The senarios are enless and different in each company. i`m a shareholder, a vp and a president, a director, a secretary, an administrator, an employee. OK, first I do not think it is legally binding for a company to FORBID you from working two jobs - hundred of thousands of people do it everyday. Second, they may be afraid that the second job would interfere with their work staff hours. Also, the "titles" you mentioned can mean anything - however, a Pres, VP, Sec of a very small (less than 5 people) business is NOT the same as the same positions for a large corporation. If you are the President of a Sole Proprietorship, you are the owner/employee. I have been in business several times for myself so I know from where I speak. |
