I owe an apartment some money how do i get in contact with the original creditor to pay this debt.? |
this debt is like 3 years old, do i call the apartments that i owe or the or the creditor they sent the account to. and will they give me a letter stating i paid that debt. this is what might be holding me up from getting another apartment, because i owe a previous apartmen. please help someone. Gregg gave you really bad advice. If you have the money to pay the debt, you should contact the collection agency that has the account. They will typically settle for pennines on the dollar. If your original debt was $1000, offer to settle for $400. Be sure to get it in writing and keep a copy of the letter and cancelled check for the rest of your life. Good Luck! and Congrats on getting your life together. Source(s): Live Debt Free!!!! To be honest with you paying this debt will not help your credit rating. It probably appears as a charge-off right now and if you pay it, all that will happen is it "may" show a paid status. In some cases re-contacting an old creditor has an even more negative effect than just leaving it be. A landlord will still look at you as a risk because you did not pay for 3 years. If it's unpaid you can dispute that it is even your debt, you can't do that if you pay it. Now, I am not suggesting that you not pay your debts, I am merely giving you information . What you decide to do, is completely up to you. You can determine what is moral, ethical and legal. EDIT: To the poster below me, I gave no advice,I presented facts to better help them decide what to do. My facts are accurate. What you suggest they do WILL, in fact, not fix their problem, which is having damaged credit. http://www.freshstartmortgagehomes.com... |
