If someone on my joint credit card account misses his/her mortgage payment, can it hurt my credit rating? |
Hello! I opened a joint account for a family member who doesn't have a very good credit rating. If that family member misses mortgage payment, which I am not part of, could it hurt by credit rating? Thanks! It will not effect you credit score, but it could effect your interest rate that your card charges you. I have seen this happen more then once. Source(s): Finance Manager for over 7-years. No, it will only hurt their credit rating. No, it won't hurt your credit score. Just watch your joint account closely to be sure the payments are being made on time. No. Your rating will remain intact because you are not on the mortgage. It will only effect the person on the mortgage with them. However make sure that they are making your credit card payments on time because if that's late, then of course that will affect your credit.
