Does cosigning a student loan affect your credit score?

Cosigning any loan affects your credit. :) Source(s): Credit Forums http://aaacreditguide.com/forums...
Sure. You are on the hook for the payment if the primary person flakes out. You are guaranteeing the loan.
If they default to pay, yes, it should.
it will boost your credit providing the primary borrower pays all on time. If they default on the account it will hurt your credit score and ultimatley hurt you pending on what financial quest you may be on. Thats why they ask people with poor credit or no credit to get a cosigner because a responsible party will make sure everything is paid on time to ensure their credit or it just gives the banks another person to go after in the end.
As long as the payments are timely and not past due there will be no negative impact on your credit score.
