Phone spam from Wentworth Direct Finance Ltd - advice please? |
I had 'Wentworth Direct Finance Ltd' call me again today, hard selling me an (expensive) loan. The lady only said that her name was Sharon and that she worked for a Tony Clayton. When I told her that I'd registered with the TPR and I'd asked them not to call me again before, she rudely slammed the phone down. They only use one of those 0870 numbers so I looked them up on Companies House (see below) to see where I could complain in writing. Qu: Has anybody else found a way to stop them calling? Judging from their companies house data they seem rather Del-Boy like: Wentworth Direct Finance Ltd Anthony Grant Clayton 4 THE MEWS WROTHAM ROAD GRAVESEND KENT DA13 0QB Company No. 04017809 Status: Inactive Date of Incorporation: 20/06/2000 Country of Origin: United Kingdom Company Type: Private Limited Company Nature of Business (SIC(03)): 7499 - Non-trading company Accounting Reference Date: 30/06 Last Accounts Made Up To: 30/06/2006 (DORMANT) you can report them for unsolicited phone calls (telecoms ombudsman) or even better play along with them let them go thru their pitch and then say you will only take the loan if they give you 30 months interst free loan in which you can pay it back and not incur no charges, then blow a whistle down the phone - trust me you wont get another phone call... tha'ts so incredibly annoying! they can be fined if you are registered with the tps so you shouold tell them you have filed a complaint and they will be fined. What is the TPR? Are you also registered on the federal do not call list? If so you can complain directly to the lists on which you are registered. After so many complaints are received they further investigate the company. This may result in enforcement action. I imagine if the TPR is a do not call list it will have the same type of enforcement. My state's regulations are far more strict than the federal list. If you have ever done business with them, including simple calls (i.e. What are your hours of operation?) They can call you for up to 18 months after business is completed. The next time they call talk to a supervisor, etc... and ask them to add you to their in-house no-call list. Take the date, name, other info. You can always report them to the BBB, too. Here's a link that describes the federal list. http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer... I had a problem at some stage dissimilar to yours though. The TPR is voluntary and you could be on a list somehow being "resold" again. Why don't you get in touch with a consumer program on BBC and write an article chronicled your adventure with them? Don't put too much energy into it though because people doing this is usually not bothered about you. There is nothing more annoying than unsolicited sales calls! As you are registered for TPR they must have got your number by buying it from another source. Reporting them as a nuisance caller is one option but making a complaint to Trading Standards is also a good idea. Another option is to contact Money Mail in the Daily Mail - they are excellent and love nothing better than to investigate companies like this. The mere mention of their name is enough to send these types running for cover! May I say how impressed I am that you went to the bother of finding out all about them very few people do that. Good luck and thanks for an interesting question. Any company dealing with loans (not unsecured loans unless they offer insurance as well as insurance is regulated) needs to be registered with Financial services authority (www.fsa.gov.uk). You can contact FSA via their website and tell them about this company. FSA is an independent body regulating whole of financial services industry. They will definately be able to take action. I am a Independent mortgage advisor by profession. |
