Is it alright to ask a bank for a letter stating that my payment wasn't late?

I paid my due in the time-frame alotted. But received a bill with late payment notice.

Sure, they should have no problem giving you a copy of your transactions.
Yes, of course, if your payment was received timely by the bank. Assuming that you have some sort of paper track (cancelled check or online payment transaction record), you simply need to print copies of same and forward them to the lender proving that your payment was timely. It should be resolved with this action.
I would first ask if your payment were considered late. What are the consequences for being late? If it does not concern a credit card or your credit report, it should not matter except in the case that your account would be charged a fee, in which case you have already been charged.
