Commission on bounced cheques?

sorry about confusion. I home collect for a loan company. Am self employed, do not have a contract and was not told at interview that I would have to repay commission on bounced cheques. As I am given a book of names and address to visit do not thin k this is right as I do not get money for calling on customers who are out, do n ot have any money, have moved, And just wondered if anyone had any knowledge of it

heheh...you never get paid for anything that bounces or gets reversed. It doesnt matter where you work. Thats just the way it works.

If they get paid...you get paid. If they dont...why would they pay you? For giving them a useless piece of paper? You work on a contingency basis, doesnt matter if you contracted or not. Besides that...you better be getting a base pay too, like hourly & commission. If your not, your working for some ghetto agency out the back of someones garage. Email me and I will get you hooked up in a monster agency.

Never take collection work home. Than you have to pay a phone bill and smart debtors can link the phone number back to you and prank call you...as usual.

First...read up about CA Sec Code 1719. The person who bounces the check has 30 days to replace it or you get to charge them three times not to exceed 1500.00 the amount of the check. Only thing is you need to send a certified letter stating such and get back signed green card. When you sue them...the judge will grant you those fees. In other states there is a similar law but different amounts...you need to read up on these things. Maybe that will get their attention.

What your talking about is "taking a hit". You put in a check it bounced and you took a hit. You dont get paid on that...not just where you work but any agency.

Oh and...this is a nice job. The industry is booming...you will never be out of work and when your in it for a long enough time...you will begin to make an incredible amount of money.

Good Luck Source(s): I am a Collection Agent.
The real question is why do you think they owe you money when the check bounced?

That means you collected $0.
get a nice job then.... these debt collection agencies are not nice, they are not nice to their 'customers' or employees... i like the use of the word 'customer' tho... how very inappropriate...
The bottom line here is that you are simply a foot soldier who simply gets paid as a percentage of the results ..... and a bounced cheque ain't a result. Yes, of course, I see your point about no money for trekking door to door, not at homes, no money to pay and now bounced cheques. Your lot is not good but please understand that your job is simple and you only get paid for results. I suggest that you simply grit your teeth on this job, collect as much as you can ( use your charm, sell yourself, whatever ) and view the whole thing as short term. That way, you can stick it until something better turns up. Oh one more thing .... I have no admiration for home loan companies .... they service a need with high interest rates and rarely people who borrow with them remain out of debt. And they are not going to treat you any different. Please move on as soon as you can ....
Only banks are the winners,
Your a bum who can get a real job. your scum in my book.
Take it you work for someone like Provident/shopacheck. Unfortunately the only way you will receive your commission, is actually receiving money from the customer, the loan company does not take into account time taken for trying to collect payments. If people are out, then the onus is on you returning at a different time to try and collect. With the bounced cheque, as the loan co effectively did not receive payment, then you are not due the commission, you could try challenging them about this, but as you have no contract, don't think you'll get too far, sorry.
