How to book hotel using mastercard..I called an x hotel and they asked for card no. what usually happe nxt? you give them you MasterCard number and tell them it's a MasterCard. They use the card to hold the room. They shouldn't charge anything until you actually arrive and sign the papers. If for some reason you don't go, be sure to cancel the reservation. They will call the credit card company for temporary authorization sometimes more than what you actually booked. The reasons are: 1- To make sure your credit card is legitimate. 2- In case you ransacks the place, they still can get their money. 3- Temporary authorization is temporary. It can be less or more depends on how many days you stay and other charges may involve after you left. 4- Temporary authorization will drop in couple days after the actually amount charges go through. Don't panic if your bill is $500 and the temporary is $750. The credit card company will adjust to the correct amount after a week. Unless you have a bill of the right amount and they charge you more when you receive your bill then you can dispute with credit card company. However, you need to call the hotel first to work with them before calling credit card company. If you didn't, when you call credit card company that's the first thing they will ask. If the hotel refused to work with you then credit card company will jump in. Credit card company already paid them as soon as they send in the bill. 5- During the time you disputing, you're not responsible for the charge but if they found that the charges are legitimate then you will have to pay.
