Can I tactfully decline a job offer after I've already accepted? |
I recently (2 days ago) accepted a job offer with a company in Washinton, DC. I had heard positive things from a few people who have no direct connection with the firm. Since that time, I've heard dozens of negative things about the corporate culture from employees and ex-employees. Things that confirm some red flags that I noted during my interview. I thought those red flags were just me being overly cautious, but now I think I ought to have trusted my gut. How can I tactfully turn down the position, now that I've already accepted? Does this happen often, and it is a terrible faux pas? Thanks very much. NO....Don't send them a letter just yet. The very best thing to do is to call and tell them that you are sorry but you changed your mind. It's that easy. You don't need them to get your next job and they don't own you. Call NOW and send a thank you letter later on. YOu never know when you may cross paths with this company again. |
