Is it illegal for an employer to give/write recommendation letters?


My boss told me she can't write me a recommendation for future jobs because it's against the law. Is this correct?

I don't know about legal, but I have heard of companies who make it their policy not to. They don't want to be sued if they say something negative about the employee and the employee doesn't get that next job because of it. Many employers limit themselves to verifying that the employee did work for them.
