Change of career.. How to enter the IT profession?

Hi there, after numerous interview rejections, I have decided it is time for a change in career direction. I want to go into IT as I really enjoy working with computers.
Just carrying out my research intially before I take the bif step.
What are the key growth areas in IT within the next 5-10 years. I want to train for something that will be around for a long time to come. I want to be able to get an IT qualification that will be internationally recognised so that I can apply for jobs anywhere. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Networking surely?

All businesses with more than one PC are likely to want a network. Sometimes these go wrong (often in my experience) and occasionally they need updating.

So, perhaps a 'Microsoft Network Engineer'
