Corporate Uniform? |
I currently work in a financial institution which is largely dominated by men with only a few female execs. I would like to be taken seriously and considered for promotions/new positions as they arise. Should I wear the corporate uniform or does this 'lessen' me in the eyes of the execs. Currently nearly all the males (except 1 or two) do not wear the uniform, but nearly all the female execs do. Some advice please.... Use the female execs as your role models. Wearing the uniform has worked for them. Also pay close attention to the type of makeup they wear and how they wear their hair. (I have worked with young girls who will never be taken seriously because they go with the very latest fads...3-4 different shades in their hair, wacky clothes, etc. It may look trendy but in a conservative environment, it is "promotional suicide.") Wear the uniform if you want a promotion in the future. corporate management experience I have never heard of a company where it was optional whether or not you wear the uniform, unless it has something to do with unions. Wearing the uniform shows solidarity. wear the "uniform" You know, why do the men get to stand out but the women have to conform to the uniform... maybe wearing the uniform hasnt worked and maybe you should dress sharply and try to stand out among all the other women and the men and be on top of your game.... work hard and try your best to get that promotion..... YOU DESERVE IT!!!!!! Go for it :) |
