How to get a REAL 'entry level' accounting job in Melbourne, Australia? |
I'm a recent graduate in accounting..(last dec 2007)..iv sent hundreds of resumes for months. ..(since March)..iv been applying office admin jobs and those so called entry level accounting jobs....but so far, iv only got one interview for a reception/office admin pos....failed... im having 2 part time jobs to keep myself alive...and i wouldnt consider volunteering at the moment since im kinda like in a financial hardship... just wondering if u guys could really tell me how to get an entry level accounting job without experience ? iv only had restaurant and sports stadium catering experience. and please anyone know which job agency will look for jobs for people at a price ? since im desperate ..id pay for it Just some ideas, - a recruitment agent could be a necessary evil. - tailor made your resume, don't send the same one to hundreds of firms. - check and double check spellings and grammar rules. - are you a migrant? I was once an overseas student. It was extremely hard to obtain a "real job" upon graduating. I find smaller suburban accounting firms are more ready to employ new migrants. Maybe, they rely more on their gut feelings than on some strict and conservative HR rules. From there it would be easier to jump elsewhere if you choose to. - have a look at the local papers (e.g. The Leader, Emerald Hills etc if you are in Melbourne) as well. - can you apply for government positions? I understand some government positions are only available if you are a citizen. It may worth a try. join the royal Australian army and apply for a payroll clerk: Following are some of the tasks Clerk Finance is expected to do. Note that not all duties are performed in each position: Understand professional pay and allowance concepts related to the military environment; Provide accurate advice on pay, personal allowances and unit/personal claims; Record transactions and conduct internal checking procedures; Maintain unit pay documentation; Undertake a defined range of clerical duties; Apply liaison, communication and interpersonal skills; Ensure that suspected fraud is reported; Participate in the administration of Non Public Money Accounts; Perform unit resource management; Operate a cash office; Prepare financial documentation and bids; and Act as the unit's pay representative and supervise the activities of other Clerks Finance within the unit or headquarters. http://www.defencejobs.gov.au/default.as... |
