What do the Verifiers write about you when they are verifying your references? Does it limit your chances? |
What do the Verifiers write about you when they are verifying your references? Does it limit your chances? Depends on what kind of references your talking about (previous employment, character, etc.) What I do know, is that in many states, verifiers will call previous employers to get information about what kind of employee you were. There may be some laws that prevent employers from verifying anything other than your length of employment (hire and termination date) and whether your available for rehire. If an employer says you are not eligible for rehire, that is a sign to a future employer, that you left on not-so-good terms, and they don't want you back. Even if there weren't any laws, many employers don't want to give extraneous information because they are liable for what they say and it opens them up for lawsuits if the ex employee wants to sue for defamation. When the company is checking your references, they are asking the following questions if your reference is a past employer: 1. What did this person do for your company? 2. How was this person's attandance record and puntuatlity like? 3. What were some of their responsibilities? 4. How long did they work for your company? 5. Can you tell me about this person's work habits? 6. How is the person's ability with computers, communication, and attention to details? If your reference is a personal reference, these are the questions they might ask: 1. How do you know this person? 2. How long have you known this person? 3. Can you tell me about this person's personality? 4. Have you worked or taken any classes with this person? 5. What are this person's strengths and weaknesses? 6. How are their communication skills? I am currently working in HR and these are some of the quesitons I'll ask references. HR they are verifying your information to be honest and truthfull |
