What accreditation is required to be a financial planner and where/how can this be done? |
Considering this as an alternative second career, even if it means taking courses. I'd prefer home study prior to the required exams. Thank you! The best route would be to become a Certified Financial Planner (CFP). You can go to the website http://www.cfp.net for more information about becoming a financial planner. Just as a note, effective 1/1/07, you need to have a bachelor's degree in order to take the certification exam. The exam is a 10 hour test that's divided into 3 sections (whew!). Depending what your current background is, you may not need to take all of the coursework-CPAs, attorneys and some other professionals are exempted from certain areas of review. Good luck! I hope it works out for you! PS I've been wanting to go that route myself, but I don't think I'd have the time to dedicate to my homework and my kids' homework! Source(s): cpa Some companies require Series 7, 63 and or 66. Just depends on what your area of specialization will be. Good luck with everything.
