I'd like to work in Finance...? |
What should I do first? 1) get in the door somewhere. 2) earn my series 7 or 6 license 3) earn my MBA with a finance emphasis. My undergrad is in business and I've worked in real estate since. Put your resume out online and indicate that you are looking for experience in financial services on your subject line and try to note some key strengths. You can also indicate that you are looking to be sponsored for your series 7 which will probably get hr people looking for you to be a sales rep. Be careful of accepting these jobs if you don't want to work on commission. A series 7 will open a lot of doors in the long run so you should def get that first because this license is recognized industry wide as a guarentee that you really know your stuff with securities and NASD rules. I put my resume online, got my 7, left the old firm and now have a nice job working in hedge funds, so I think this is a good way. Only get your MBA after having at least 3 years of experience and/or some management experience. It won't help if you have no experience with an MBA because then employers will think you might be too overpriced for the amount of experience that you have. Don't fall into that trap. Also, try to get a company to pay for your MBA! No reason for you to pay it all yourself! Source(s): work in financial services for 3 years, series 7 licensed Get one of your licenses to give the financial institution an "excuse" to think seriously about you. Then apply for an internship. Most pay a small salary and also help pay for license test fees and further education. You can usually move-up from an internship right into a regular position. Do all three. Good luck, you can do it. |
