Why do people quit?

Why do people quit?

Tomorrow is my last day at my current job. I'm moving from a company of 1000+ people to one of less than 100. The pay will be the same so it's not about money. I'm leaving for a variety of reasons though. Here's my list.

1) I don't have much faith in the direction of the company. We're in a fiercely competetive market and I don't see much of anything new to differentiate our upcoming new products.

2) The chain of command in my particular group is not providing any direction for the group. We're floundering. Communication is practically non-existent and the whole direction is not to identify and solve problems but to cover up and hope it goes away.

3) I'm bored. I've been doing similar tasks for 8 years now and it's getting repetitive. I want to do something different that I will find stimulating for my mind.

4) Moving to a smaller company will have it's challenges but everyone there will have to produce. No one can't hide. This happens a lot in a larger company in my experience and it's frustrating to see how many people produce absolutely nothing. Also there will be less bureaucracy in a smaller company which should make it easier to get things done.
If lots of people are leaving it's because the situation is unpleasant and they have better things to do with their lives.
A lot of reasons. Low pay, bad boss, found a better job someplace, or simply afraid they're gonna get fired so they quit before they do.
People quit because they are either unhappy or have found a better paying gig.
Granted sometimes, its the people you work with... if you have to take ONE MORE DAY with them it might turn into something needing legal action.... Or moving... Or other little things like that.
But the mighty dollar is a powerful thing and that comes... of course.. from working.
So for a person to quit they have to be so unhappy that they cant even wait to just screw up and get fired to collect unemployment.... or because they found a better paying job.
Many reasons. More money, relocation, divorce, disagreement with supervisor, got into discipline problems at work, improved benefits, death in family, work too hard, hours to much, hours not enough, shift work, work weekends, work nights, work days, safety, parking, drive to long, ethics, discrimination, harassment, no child care and many others.
To avoid burnout.
The reasons for people quitting are as different as people are.

Some will quit because they think the next job will be perfect. Others leave because they got offered something better. Sometimes, people quit because the position they're leaving became intolerable. Or, someone could leave because they won the lottery.

If you are seeing a lot of people leaving the company you're employed at, talk to your manager and ask them what the heck is going on.
