What education do i need to become a stock trader? |
Becasue i start my ba in economics in a few months and want to know if it is the right way yo go.Any info will be greatly appreicated! I would say that you would want a Bacholer of Business degree with a major in Finance and a minor in economics, business law, etc. Ask your career counselor at school to find out for you! You pay the university lots of money and that is their job...to help you with these questions. You could also contact a brokerage firm and ask them what they look for in potential stock traders. Speak to a few stock traders. Contact some of the places you might want to work for and ask them. Maria Marsala http://www.elevatingyourbusiness.com... 1. BA in economics is fine. But make sure you take classes that teaches you: probability theory, basic financial theories (efficient market, CAPM, valuation of firm, real options... the list goes on). Some accounting is great too. 2. Get an internship on the trading floor. Know how it's like. People have successed as trader with very little relevant schooling and failed as top-notch undergrads from top-notch colleges. It's a job that you need to go in to find out if you are a fit or not. 3. Start paying attention to markets (and know why you want to be a stock trader... especially there is fixed-income, futures, options and commodity markets out there as well). know the current news and how they impact the financial markets and develop opinion. These are the distinguishing factor that sets you apart from another qualifying candidate. all of the previous answers are applicable if you want to be an analyst or money manager, but to be quite honest, many traders and brokers did not go to college. they start out as an intern or a lowly clerk and get licensed. there are a lot of routes to take in financial services w/ a ba in economics, but a trader? you'd better live in chicago or nyc, otherwise you're just sitting on some tiny desk with not a lot of excitement... |
