When should I tell my boss??? |
It鈥檚 a long story but I鈥檒l try to make it short. First I was stuck in a bad job with a cheap boss who never appreciated my work. But then I applied for an open position which I won!!! And got a 30% raise and when I moved to the new position (inside the company, I鈥檓 a finance assistant) my new boss didn鈥檛 give me a 30% raise, he gave me an 80% raise!!!! I was really surprised and very, very happy. That was last Monday. Suddenly, on Wednesday I started feeling weird and took a pregnancy test and guess what, I AM pregnant and very happy, I didn鈥檛 planned it but I鈥檓 great with my husband and this is a good thing. I feel embarrassed of telling my new boss and afraid he will send me away if I鈥檓 not 100% here because he pays me really well but he also wants me to be 12 or 13 hours at the office and he has shorten my lunch time already. I鈥檓 not complaining, I鈥檓 willing to work hard but I just don鈥檛 know what to say or when to say it. Any ideas??? I would 1st of all wait until you are 12 weeks because that is when you are out of the danger zone for losing the baby...that also gives you time to build a relationship with your new boss. If it were me I would wait until 16-20 weeks if you plan on working up until your due date...this gives them more than enough time to plan on your maternity leave. If you don't plan on working up to your maternity leave then tell them at 12 weeks. Tell them before you start to show (ie before you start wearing maternity clothes). Since you have an established relationship with the company you should be fine, they may suprise you! What kind of Family Leave does your office provide in addition to fed/state regs? If you do not know, find out. Before you talk to your boss, you need to know what YOU plan to do. Return to work 6 weeks after delivery? Take a year off? You need to know what you want to come of this so that you can be straightforward with your boss. When you tell him you are pregnant, his number one question will be about if you plan to return to work, how long you plan to stay during pregnancy, etc. You should prioritise your options lady.... What do you want the most.. the baby or the job??? Personally I feel you should tell your boss. Maybe he would be considerate enough. After all you are a human and have a right to live your life!! I think you should make Good introduction to him and to be honest with him Tell him that you need to talk to him then start talking by mentioning that you are highly appreciate his offer and that you are there to do your best tell him that you are honest and want to be frank with him as Good sign promise him to keep efforts if he become angry, just tell him let me keep working and observe me **I'm accepting the challenge** First CONGRATULATIONS! On your pregnancy. Second, the best thing to do is sit down and have a meeting with your new Boss and explain your circumstances to him or her. You never know they maybe supportive of you? Third, there are laws which protect you against DISCRIMINATION for being pregnant. ______________________________... Check your Employee Handbook or Benefits Manual for your Leave of Absence Policies. Or speak with your local Human Resources Officer or Manager to get more information about your benefits. There are also established laws as to the number and amount of your DAILY rest periods such as Breaks and Lunch. You're work is obviously appreciated and you are a great employee. You want to preserve your good standing so when your new arrival comes you can provide for them in the near future. In the meantime, don't worry, use your benefits, and do the best job posssible. Be communicative. ______________________________... CONGRATULATIONS! AGAIN :-) Leave of Absence Policies and Benefits ask to set a private meeting with him. tell him thanks for the new raise...., but u have to discuss a new matter.... then tell him. make sure he understands that u will work very hard, but close with "and i completely understand if u dont want to continue with my raise". some ppl r real jerks but it's a 50/50 chance u got, nd u gotta say something. good luck. |
