While I agree that a degree with a focus in Finance is most useful, I would disagree that some degrees are "dumbass" ones. I am a Compensation Analyst and work with legal, finance, staffing, etc. and one of my degrees is in Marketing. Many majors allow you to choose electives and a generalized business degree with electives in the finance industry will assist you best in pursuing a career as a financial analyst. Good luck.
I hold a B.S. in Finance and a B.A. in Economics. Without them, I would not be a Financial Analyst, not on the Street anyway. Either way, you'll need something in business, just stay away from dumbass degrees such as marketing, administration, etc.
