How can I get into the accounting/finance field at an entry level? Financial analyst?

I'm 24, one year out of college. I got a bachelor's degree in Marketing, which is basically a piece of crap. I've been in sales now for a year, and I hate it. I'm decent at it, and make decent money, but it doesn't suit my personality.

I'd like to get in as a financial analyst somewhere, or some sort of entry level accounting. I looked for openings within my company, without any luck. Does anybody have any advice/experience they'd like to share?

You don't need a CPA to be a financial analyst, but a degree in Accounting would help. An MBA would be your best bet. But you could still parley a marketing major into this career field because many market analysts do financial work and vice versa. So within your company look for a way to work on the data/financial side of marketing. Tell them up front what you want. If they hold this against you, you're better off knowing now. If looking at a new company, same strategy.

If you have 9-12 accounting credits, you might try an entry level position but the industry type might matter. Again, use your marketing background to market yourself.
First of all don't say Marketing bad. It has its own creditability.

If you want to start your career in Accounting, than first thing you need to do is enroll in university or any college that has stander accounting program.

For example bachelor in commerce, and take major in Accounting. In this case most of you marketing credit will be counted in B. Comm.

You can also join some privet institute that has accounting program, but that program will lead you to entry level not financial analyst.
To become financial analyst you have to at least do CPA Certified Public Accountant in US and CA Charter Accountant, or CGA Certified General Accountant in Canada.

I hope this will give you some basic goal. But if you are really interested you should really start gathering all information.
Personal Experience
In my opinion, I would start to apply at a temporary accounting agency. See if you like the career path. If you do, then start taking accounting or finance classes at a nearby community college. In the process of getting some background, you will get an idea of how it is like to do financial analysis. At the same time, you will need to decide whether you would like to work at a public, private or government agency. If you want to go a step further, try getting the Certified Public Accountant License and then, you are set for life. (but make sure it is what you enjoy doing and that suits your personality) Good luck!!
