Do adult children have a financial responsibility to their parents? |
Many seniors are living longer. They financially may have not anticipated rising medical treatments, high cost of medication, housing. Does government play a role? What if the children are not close to the parents and never received financial or emotional support from the parents. Just do the right thing. Your parents won't be here long and the decent thing to do would be to make them as comfortable as possible and don't cause them any grief while you have them here on earth with you. I took care of both my mother and father and it was bittersweet but my father and I were bumping heads all my life with issues. I am so honored to have had the privilege of being his daughter We developed the closest relationship I have ever had and he was proud of me up to the end. Please do you it will always know you have nothing to feel guily about afterwards. Source(s): A orphan I can't answer for everyone, but for myself, I will take care of my parents when they can't do it on their own. I don't look at it as a responsibility; I look at it as an act of love. BTW, I treat my DOG better than some residents of nursing homes are treated. Adult children are not responsible for their parents either emotionally or legally. If a person doesn't like their parents due to past grievances, he or she shouldn't feel obligated to assist the parent. legally no your not responsible....but ethically it would be the right thing to do....obviously if your not close to your kids then i'd start thinking of another way....you see how many elderly people are living off of nearly nothing or thrown into trashy nursing homes. Well if you grew up with them and not somewhere else they must have taken care of you at least to some degree. How would it make you feel to know your parents are living in the street or don't have food or heat. If they are in dire straits you could at least offer some help. Yes, why else do you have kids? (ha!) No, but any good parent expects their children to be there when they need. Any good child would be there. Even if they weren't so good at parenting, you made it, so why not pay homage? Give back to those that gave to you! |
