What type of schooling would I need for the financial industry? |
As far as investment firms, mutual fund brokerages and other financial services, What type of courses and degrees are needed to get hired? Any degree that is i) quantitative, ii) analytical, and iii) well rounded, but not necessarily technical. It takes classes in finance, accounting, and economics to gain a strong understanding of the industry. To be techinical and to have a mind of a banker are two different things. The difference is having that personality that is driven, socially strong, and of course, interesting. Most though, will pursue whatever passion they have, do very well academically, and then take on the responsibility of a career in financial services. Most investment banks will regard diversity in their analyst classes as a top priority because of this value for those who truly and sincerely pursue a topic of interest. You will do much better choosing a topic that purely interests you rather than simply deciding on a major in preparing for a career.
