My boss is mad at me?

I started this job about 4 months ago and me and my boss hit it off really well. Then a posting for a higher position came along and I said to her that I was thinking about it and she got upset and said she wouldnt stand in my way but she didnt want me to leave bc she had plans for me however she wouldnt tell me what they were. Now I told her I didnt think I was going to post for it bc it didnt seem worth it, The the day b4 the dead line I spoke with my father and he said it was a smart move to post for the job bc it shows I want to move up in the company so the next morning my boss was out sick and I posted and got a interview. Today my boss came in and found out and is now mad at me bc she thinks I was going behind her back. I tried to explain to her it wasnt like that. Now what do I do????Plus I dont even know if I am going to get the promoiton!!

Sounds like there's too much personal crap going on here. Tell your boss that you wanted to show your ambition by expressing your desire to move up in the company. Tell her that if she thinks that the position she has in mind is better suited for you, that you have the right to know what those plans are. I would go over her head, or to the HR dept. to discuss the fact that she is upset with you, but unwilling to possibly remedy that by giving you the information you need to decide between the two jobs. Source(s): Experience, baby.
While I totally understand how you are feeling, I would urge you to not put too much pressure on yourself about this issue. You are only looking for a possible advancement opportunity, and if your boss would look at it the right way, why would she NOT want someone with your eye for advancement? Everyone does this type thing in the corporate workplace, and it's a common practice. Bosses like yours are just selfish and small-minded. Especially if she cannot tell you what plans she has for you in the future in your current position. So that statement is probably B.S. and just thrown out to make you feel "guilty". Good luck in the interview and just be positive.
If I were boss I would be very annoyed with you. First, posting for a new position after only 4 months is presumptuous. I expect a year or two from my new hires before they move on. This is because it takes at least 3-6 months to properly train someone in the various aspects of the job and the company. So, you're of no value to me if you leave before I've even trained you to do your job properly. Second, you waffled on your decision to interview. The fact that you "re-decided" to do it on a day that your boss was out of the office is awfully...what's the word for it...cheesy. As a manager, I need people who get things done for me, not people who give me more to do. Having to continually adjust my hiring plans because I have a waffling employee is not something that would endear me to that employee.
If I were you, I'd go back to your boss and say that you're in the position for at least a year or two and that you've realized how much you have still to learn about the position and the company. Additionally, you thought about the quality of your relationship with your boss and you've realized that it's an asset that you don't want to walk away from.
Having a boss that supports and sponsors you is one of the greatest advantages you can have in a company.
Managerial experience
Seems liks all you can do is be honest with your boss. You didn't go behind her back intentionally, but you are showing initiative, and that is a good thing. If you are like me, and you're new to the working world, bosses and managers have to understand that we are trying to improve our lives and we are working towards a career. Every position we have to a chance to learn new skills and can become resume builders. It's not a bad thing--your boss did it before you to get where she is, and her boss did it before her. Just be honest and explain it to her. Ask her to speak privately with her at some point during the day and be honest...she spoke to your father and agreed it would show initiative and unfort. she was out sick.
yes You should talk to ure boss about this. Tell her that you respect her and would definitely like to get promoted by her but you took a move by your ownself as to convince yourself that you have an ability to move ahead. And yes you better ask her about the promotion plans which she had for you and you must , then, together with her calculate the difference between the most better position or promotion which is worth for you and which could earn more benefits for you.
