What is the average cost to become qualified as a psychiatrist?

Also, the requirements and how many years college?

A psychiatrist is a physician, and to become one you will need to go to medical school and then get specialized training in psychiatry afterwards. This is a process that will take many years. You will need 4 years of undergraduate study, plus another 4 years in medical school, then another couple years for your residency. So, at the very minimum you are looking at about 10 years of training. The cost is also not going to be cheap, and unless you can get a lot of scholarships you will have to take out student loans that will run well into six figures.

But, don't let the money or the time deter you from your goal if this is what you really want to do. Time and money spent on becoming a physician eventually pays off pretty well down the road.
