Internship in financial service industry?

I am entering my junior year at Syracuse University where I am majoring in economics and minoring in finance. Once I graduate, I hope to become a financial analyst. I currently have an internship at Northwestern Mutual as financial representative. I am looking at internships for next year, preferably dealing with investments, in the Syracuse/Buffalo area. Any suggestions about investment companies, internship programs or career advice? (It doesn't necessarily have to be within Syracuse/Buffalo)

hey skip, you need to come down to the city to get a real internship experience
Check out craigslist.com
The best thing that you could do right now is to try to get onto http://www.doostang.com (it's invitation only, and has a lot of great job postings, including internships -- think Facebook for professionals instead of college students).

Ask around, but your Career Services Center could most likely send you an invite.

I can personally vouch for this site (I used it to get my current internship with a small consulting company based in FL).

Just get on the site, upload your resume, and check for new job postings about every week until your semester starts, then start checking 2-3 times each week.

Jobs at the Bulge Brackets will start to go in early November, so be ready, get your resume and letters of recommendation ready, and try to track down some alums.

As far as looking for companies, most insurance companies own brokerage houses or investment groups (for example, MassMutual owns OppenheimerFunds and Babson Capital Management, among others). Try to see if the company that you're working for now has anything like this under its umbrella, and if so, ask your supervisor (or, really, anyone else that you work with) if they can introduce you to any of their contacts in the business units that might be more related to your ultimate career goals. Basically, your next two-three months should be spent building a network that you can exploit next semester.

Good luck, and as long as you get creative enough with your searching, you shouldn't really have too many problems.
