Is the CPA Program in Australia well respected? |
I am hearing that the exams are very easy now and that students are being passed for their exams when they can barely speak English. I am wondering if this is because there is competition with the CA Program and if students fail their exams, they will just change their study to the CA Program. So, it is a matter of holding onto their students, who then have continued professional education with them throughout their careers. I am interested to know just how much this is respected and needed for strategic finance roles. I am a CPA with a chipped shoulder. They will probably blacklist me for saying this. I can honestly say - within the profession, CPA is seen as a second class. The exam is easier, no argument about it. CA students at work that find CA too hard just switch to CPA and pass every single one of the exams with HD or D. I never sat for any CA exam, I can't say how competitive the program is. Once you get your CA or CPA, CPD hours are mandatory. If you work in the profession is actually not that hard to satisfy. Mid tier firms would have in average 4 hours technical seminar/training/meeting every month. Depending on the firm, you can do your own on top. I personally think it's no issue to get 120 hours in 3 year. It would be trickier if you work in the industry. Some other prof. bodies (such as SPAA) ask their members to do variety of CPD - ie. not just sitting down listening to various seminar presenters. But also write articles to be published, giving presentation your self etc. That's trickier - and maybe better to maintain the quality of the members. Sorry for talking a bit off the topic. CPA and CA are the necessary evil for working as an accountant. I don't know whether the "second class" idea is as bad within the industry (as opposed to the profession) or not. I'm guessing not. Source(s): I am a CPA, working in a CA firm, know some people who failed their CA exams repeatedly, switched to CPA and got awards for outstanding performance. Never did CA exam myself. I went for a job interview in the past, where the partners of the city firm specifically asked me to re-sit for CA exam - he did not recognise the quality of CPA. The two most respected CPA programs are in the Middle East (like saudi arabia) and America...they are the hardest exams... try other sites http://www.cpamart.com/ http://www.cpafaq.com/ http://www.aaicpa.com/ http://www.cpaexams.org/ Yes It is Australia Well Prespect |
