Help me! How do i ask for a raise? |
tomorrow will be a year that i've been working for this law firm in the accounting dept. i don't feel like i've done such a good job for the past 3 months and have been scolded for overpayments, double paying vendors. recently one of the jobs that i did have was takin from me and given to someone else due to numerous errors. I still feel that i deserve a raise but am too embarrased to even approach my boss. HOw would you go about asking for a raise if you were in my position? please help go up to your boss and say,"hey i wanna talk i'm gonna cut right to the chase here. i have been working here almost a year and i think i deserve a raise." being that u mess up on so much, if your evaluation is base on your performance I say wait awhile try your best to do a good job before you go and ask for a raise. When you want to ask for a raise you must have something good on the table, meaning that you have a list of all the good thing that you have done for the company and also ideas of how you have improve your department by your presence. if you don't have that I don't see how you ask for a raise. base on what you said you are lucking they have not fired you. Don't call it a raise...call it a "cost of living increase." You can also say that your mind would be more focused on work if you weren't so worried about being in trouble financially. maybe do a better job and then you can go in with examples of the good work your doing and ask for raise then. Work another 3 months error free, then ask. Hey we all make mistakes!!! Every mistake that you have made I am sure the others have made similar mistakes. My suggestion would be write down all the great things that you have accomplished in the last year then start from there. If you are always on time, willing to stay late, a great team player, willing to go the extra mile, you make mistakes but you take responsibility of those mistakes and you learn from them. There is a whole bunch of things that you can do to show that you deserve a raise. Just put yourself in his shoes and ask yourself "Would I give myself a raise if I was him/her"? Then answer why? and then take him to the side and lay it out to him. I got my first raise by making a professional proposal. Good luck! |
