How do you find a really good financial adviser?

How do you find a really good financial adviser?

First, I would stick to a national name to be safe. Beyond that, it's a matter of who fits your personality and style of investing. Some of the larger firms are trying to focus only on the wealthy (accounts of over $1million), so keep that in mind. Make appointments a 3-4 firms and interview a few different advisors. Make sure they have a wide offering of solutions, i.e. stocks, bonds, CDs, mutual funds, privately managed accounts, fee-based as well as commission based options, etc. If they start off by pitching you a single product that can meet all you investment needs, look elsewhere.

take the time to look at different companies fee structures, as some companies will nickel & dime you to death. The company you work with should also have a good reputation, and not have a bunch of class action suits from their shareholders. Beware of companies who only try to sell you their preferred mutual funds. You need a broker that is able to have enough time to spend with you one and one, at least every few months. I personally like smaller offices, so there is always someone accountable for your account. I've been at larger places where they lost my accounts, mishandled checks, you name it. They always blamed someone else.
