How much does it usually take to prepare for lvl 1 CFA for people who have engineering backgroud?

I am considering CFA Level 1 in Dec'07 but couldn't prepare much for that till now.

If you go to the CFA Institute web site, they recomend at least 250 hours of study for level 1. Of course, that is just a recomendation, and it will be up to you to determine how much time you need. My recomendation is for you to get the study guides, and follow what CFA recommends. It is not a difficult exam if you are prepared. The other consideration for you is that you do not have a background in finance. Being an engineer is nice because it means you can learn, but you'll still be facing a new subject. Whatever you do, aim for lots of time studying...maybe 350 hours jus to be sure.
For me, I started LEARNING the stuff in July. Passed the exam in Dec.

Buy Schweser notes, buy core readings, do at least 2000 practice problems before the exam, get a good night sleep before the exam, and you'll do fine
Experience. Engineering undergrad, passed CFA tests
I find it interesting how many people say the CFA isnt that hard.... only 38% of the people who tried passed it last year... and i'm sure most of them studied as much as they thought they needed. ...

Study until you are sure you will pass.... "individual results may vary"
