Certified Financial Planner course-Chicagoland colleges/online? |
1.What is the cost? 2. How long is the course? 3. Which school/online provider is best in Chicagoland area (have you taken the course from them)? 4. Is the course a prerequisite for sitting for the CFP exam? 5. Do you have to be sponsored to take it? (how does that work?) 6. How often is the exam offered? 7.Can you practice as a financial planner after taking the course, and before taking the exam? 8.Can you practice if you do not pass the exam but took the course? 9.What is the salary? Any and all information is appreciated. Thanks! The American College offers the course online. I did it and I recommend it (theamericancollege.edu). There are 6 courses and each course costs about $500. Right now, you are required to have a college degree before obtaining the certification. You also need to have 3 years of personal financial planning experience before attaching the CFP behind your name. The exam is offered three or four times per year (see cfp.net for more info). You can practice as a financial planner with or without this designation. However, you will be at a disadvantage when someone is looking for an advisor and you are a choice along with the CFP. Salary - it depends on how hard you work. You will be essentially running your own business so sales and networking will be a huge part of your success. The money is there, you just have to go out and get it. Ron, ChFC |
