I've got a 2:2. How shall I find a job in financial sector? |
I graduated from Westminster last year in business-finance. I've been looking for a job in financial sectors but not very sucessful yet. Can anyone give some advice? My 2:2 seems a big problem. Many employers rule me out at the fist stage because of this. do you have to mention the 2:2 or can you just say graduated with a BA from Westminister? what losers are these people who rule people out without getting to know everything about them? you're luvky you didn't get those jobs, u r better off not working or them... Another thing you could do is have a great attitude..people are more impressed with a positive attitude than anything else.. a very wise person once told me this story: imagine 2 guys going for a job interview, the first one is fully qualified, with excellent credetials & knows all about the job etc..but is very negative, looks depressing with an unkempt appearance etc..he looks like he'd be depressing to work with...the 2nd guy doesn't have all the necessary credentials, has some experience but not all of them necessarily, but is positive, confident that he can handle anything, uses his brain, not what it says on his papers...has a can do attitude...will do, can do, will learn etc... who would you give the job to? well, I know I'd pick the 1st guy... anyways, my point is look for employers who are smart & whose company you respect...if someone treated me like that, I;d say, thanks alot, you saved me alot of time choosing where I want to work... actually, the smartest people don't have the best grades becos although they have a high IQ on studying, they don't always have a high social & common sense IQ... you can have a job you love & 2:2 is good enough! :) also, these are some websites for job searching, I hope they are useful.. http://www.prospects.ac.uk/cms/showpage/... http://uk.oneworld.net/section/uk/jobs... http://www.execucare.com/ http://edenrecruitment.co.uk/vacancy.asp... (I also have a list of job sites working for the enviornment, please email me if you are interested). NEW ADDED: persevere & don't give up! I wanted to say this because of an email I just received & thought it was (funnily) quite relevant to your question & thought I'd share it here:) The single, most striking difference between lucky and unlucky people is perseverance. Unlucky people seem to have a knack for quitting just before they achieve something. On the other hand, lucky people don't seem to know when they're beaten. They just keep on going until they get what they want. The success of people who are usually perceived as 'lucky' often has nothing to do with luck but everything to do with perseverance. They succeed not because they are lucky, but because they refuse to give up. The current president of Brazil, Luiz In谩cio Lula da Silva, is such an example. One of seven children of illiterate parents, Lula himself left school at age 12 to work and help support his family. He took jobs as a shoeshine boy and a street vendor, then as a factory worker. Later on as a political activist, Lula spent time in prison and was four times defeated in elections - once for state governor and three times for president. But in 2002, Lula won the presidential election (and again in 2006). He said in his inaugural speech, "I, after being accused and humiliated so many times for not having a degree or higher education, receive today my first graduation - that of President of my country." Lula referred to the jibes he suffered for having left school after the fourth grade. Perseverance trumps bad luck and adversity every time. If you want to change your luck, you need to become a person of persistence. If what you want is so good and important that it's worth fighting for, then do not give yourself rest until you get it. Don't worry about how long it will take. Only remind yourself of what it will feel like when you have it. And just keep going. best try again for a first !! All you can do is work extra hard, and apply for every job going out there. Don't just restrict your search to graduate schemes, look for the day to day vacancies the companies have. If you are interested in accountancy you may want to try the AAT (Association of Accouting Techinicians) qualification. This is normally open to school levers and those who may not have got the 2:1 degrees they were hoping for. If taken on your training if you jon an accountancy firm will be paid for by the firm normally and once you have passed you can go on take the ICAEW ACA exam in only two years with substantial exemptions. If you are interested in accountancy it is a possible qualification. 2.2's pretty shabby - you enjoyed yourself too much, probably too much booze and shagging around. But anyway. it's done...... employers would take a look but be thinking that dog don't hunt....... Have you thought of rewriting your CV completely from scratch, give it a great makeover, full of enthusiasm etc. Don't hide the 2.2 - put it out there, you earned it. |
