Question about Becker CPA Review? |
Hi, everyone. I just graduated from college and am thinking of taking CPA exam in a year so I can become a CPA/accounting professional in the accounting industry. I looked at the Becker website and called the place but couldn't retrieve any information about the backgrounds or qualities of Becker instructors. Right now, I am leaning toward choosing Becker as my review course for CPA exam but I have to find out how good, competent the instructors are before signing off on the program. Is there anyone here who has taken Becker CPA Review Courses? What was ur impression of the instructors and their teaching skills? Thanks in advance for any insights. The course can typically be taken in a class setting or you can order the CDs and take the course at home. However, even if you take the course in the class setting, they typically just play the CDs for the entire class. You should go with whatever you think will work better for you. Now that you can take the exam in separate sections, I think it would be easier to get the CDs and do it at your own pace. As for the competency of the instructors on the CD, they know what they are doing and as long as you do everything in the program, your going to pass. There should be a representative you could contact to ask these questions. The instructors are usually the same people that teach at the nearby universities. I have heard positive reviews about the course, and that it really does help you pass the exam, but the course taught at my university was taught by a professor that I took a regular class with and didn't really learn much from. Ironically, a former student assistant to a Becker representative. I was a becker rep myself in college and took becker review for my exam. To be honest, there are no instructors in the course. If you take the classroom version, there will be a video running overhead in which there will be an instructor. Now in that video the instructors inter-act etc but no instructor in the class will teach you. Sure there are Becker people moderating the classroom, to answer questions, to pause, to go over quizzes etc (that is at least how it is Chicago, and i think most US, EXCEPT may be NY). But the courses are pretty comprehensive and they provide updates to answers on the site and any regulatory changes etc. (you can check that on student tab on their site even now). The CD version is the same EXACT as live class version and i recommend the cd version bec you can go over the lecture million times if you want, where as if you wana go over the lecture if you were registered as a live class student, you will have to pay $20 per chapter. I highly highly recommend cd versions and moreover it is the same exact thing.. good luck |
