2 week notice?

Typically, are you supposed to put your 2 week resignition notice in exactly 2 weeks before you last planned day to work? Or can you put it in a few months in advance?

a 2 week notice is called that because you give 2 weeks notice... don't do anything else..., or you are jeopardizing your current position. never talk to anyone else at your company about it either, until you give notice.
Most positions expect 2 weeks notice and will in turn only give you two weeks as well. Most jobs, both hourly and high paying white collar, will ask you to leave after two weeks once you give your notice. They don't want you having the opportunity to mess anything up, steal or start doing a bad job once you know you're leaving. Once you give notice most places give you a hard time and create an environment you wouldn't want to stay in anyway.
2 weeks is the usual notice given to an employer. Why would you tell them several months in advance? Will they feel bad if you resign? Is 2 weeks not enough notice for your employer? Will it take some time before they can find your replacement?

I think you alone can make that decision because you know all the facts. We don't. My opinion, however, is look for another job first before you resign. Employment is a market right now. Companies are always resizing so employees come and go.

Peace and blessings!
Two weeks notice is standard protocol, but you can give as much notice as you like; however, I would highly recommend that you do not submit your resignation several months in advance. The most notice I have ever given was three weeks.
You can put it in 2 months in advance but if you feel that they might just get rid of you do not do it. I would do it 3 weeks in advance to be safe.
