Please distinguish between the finance jobs out there?

What undergrad and possible grad background is most suitable for each job?

In my experience, when people say "finance" they mean one of three completely different areas. One is accounting. Accounting is different than finance. Accounting is keeping the books (I know this is a huge simplification-I'm talking about financial accounting). Another area people mean when they talk about finance is in "investment / securities sales. Finally, there is the actual finance itself (which I'm in). It typically is concerned with the best use of company resources (i.e. profitability, mergers & acquisitions, etc...). If you want to get into accounting, then get a degree in accounting and look to get a CPA. If you want to get into investments and securities, then get a degree in finance, accounting, or even economics, then get your securities lisecences. If you want to get into finance, then follow the same thing as in investments, but get an MBA. Hope this helps.
