If a company has 2 similar jobs posted on its website, can I apply to both?

I found a very good company that has 2 attractive available positions posted on its website.

I would be willing to work at either position.

Can/Should I apply to both or is that a bad idea? Will the HR department notice that I applied to both? (I bet they would).

If the HR department saw that I applied for only 1 position would they independently think I could also be a good for for the other position?

Would do you suggest, apply for just 1 or Both?

Thanks

Apply for both, it's almost certain different people will be looking at applicants for each job
just apply for both. they wont think bad of you for it. they will just know that you are qualified and interested in both positions.

dont assume others know what you want. if you only apply for one position, they may not consider you for the other, thinking you may not be interested.

if they are 2 different departments, chances are that the same manager wont be looking at both.
Personally, I'd go for both. Why can't you call the HR department and ask them which is better? I'm sure they wouldn't mind that.
Apply for both.
Go for broke. You may not be what they have in mind for one position, but might be a good fit for the other.
Good luck.
Sure you can apply for both of them, especially since the posting are web based. A lot of the applicants wouldn't be shared since the files are job specific in many cases. Apply for both and make sure that you just are exact in your application, you don't want both of them to show up and not be exact.
