I had a disastrous first interview with my dream job (SVG co.) They sent me home, should i call them? |
i just passed cpa board exam last may07, and i believed i belong to top 30 because i had a good rating. my grades in college are impressive, I think the HR personnel who intervwd me was disappointed because of d way i ansered the interview. I WAS SO NERVOUS I DIDNT ASK INTELLIGENT QUESTIONS!!!!Would they reconsider my application if i call them? should i ask for a second chance? the succeeding intervws i had wERE fine, they want to hire me because i did my homework. But SGV is my dream. I REALLY WANT TO WORK WITH THEM. Send a thank you note to thank them for taking the time to interview you...mention that it is your dream to work for them and you would really appriciate another interview, you were very nervous and you know you didn't make the best 1st impression. A well written thank you note can make a big differance to some prospective employers. If you really want the job, a very professional request would not hurt. It may be too late though. Sometimes you have to try a few times to get the job you want. I've heard of people who have waited years to work at their dream company. Call up the interviewer when you are not nervous and explain how you were nervous at the time of the interview and that you'd like to have another chance in the future. Be polite, don't be pushy! Otherwise wait a few months and try again. The company will probably be there in the future and I hope you get your dream job :) www.myAcumen.com Accept the job you have been offered. Get some experience and confidence under your belt and then reapply with your dream company. Well, hopefully your typing and spelling here are a little lax because of the forum, but my suggestion would be to send a Thank you card to the HR Director that interviewed you and thank him for his time. State in the note that you really admire SGV Co.'s business model and, although you were nervous in the interview, you feel that you would be a perfect fit for their accounting team and are available for a follow-up interview at his convenience. This shows, persistence and professionalism, without looking desperate. If you get another interview, wonderful, if not move on and build your experience as a CPA. Good luck! Why are you so fixated on SVG? (I don't know who they are.) When I was about to finish school I really wanted to work for KPMG - the only reason, thinking back, was that some reps from their firm came to the school to recruit and did a good job on selling us on how awesome it is to work there. They did not hire me and I was pretty disappointed. As I met more people in the business I have been told time and time again about how abusive and anxiety inducing big CPA firm culture is. From what I hear they are not very nice places to work. My current employer could buy and sell all of the top 30 CPA firms, I am paid better than someone at my level at a CPA firm, and I don't work a second more than 40 hours a week. My advice would be stay away from CPA firms and look into big companies or government. |
