Would passing Series 63 exam be a big help to become a finanical analyst ? |
Would passing Series 63 exam help me to get a position as a financial analyst ? Getting your 63 on your own would certainly show some dedication and sincere interest in becoming a financial analyst. The only downside is that the 63 is one of the easier tests to pass. What would be more impressive, is if you got your 7 As for "big help" - all the licensing exams are generally useless. They are mandatory steps that one must take, but the goal is always to pass the test by the minimum score. Getting a CFA certification is a much bigger deal and would be a huge boost to your resume The 63 is totally unrelated to being a financial analyst. If you are pursuing a financial planning role, it may be required. The 63 would allow you to register as an investment advisor. As for becoming a financial analyst, a BS in Finance is the starting point. An MBA would make you even more marketable. The CFA is also a different avenue. Registering with NASD is not always required to be a financial analyst. You wouldn't even be able to pursue the Series 7 until you are sponsored by a broker/dealer. Ron, ChFC Investment banks require that their analyst pass the Series 7 and 63. However if you are going into corporate finance, it is not required (although it would be helpful). Intern at an I-bank Agreed with others, this is only usefull if you want to be a financial advisor (as in a sales type position). You are better off getting your CFA, although this is much more work , and requires passing 3 intense exams over an 18 to 36 month period (depending one when you take the first level). Level 1 exams are offered in December and June, while level 2 and 3 are only given in June. As of 2005 median income for a CFA charter holder is >150k CFA candidate |
