Ameriprise? Good or bad company to start as a Financial Advisor? Bad. I suggest that you go here and read about it: http://www.amexsux.com/cgi-bin/yabb/yabb... http://forums.registeredrep.com/... Ameriprise, to me, sounds like a commission based company that you have to get people involved to make some money. You better really look into this because if the only way you make money is based on commission, then you better not take it. There are no guarantees. This sounds a lot like Primerica. if you can use them to get you into the business and sponsor you for the securities exams then do it , then move on, but i wouldnt do what they want which is to sell to all your friends and family, then they move on to the next person most likely Ameriprise used to be American Express. They are a brokerage firm that targets high net worth investors. You will be expected to sell securities products after completing your securities licensing(if you have trouble with tests you may want to reconsider). They may offer you a program to "draw" against future commissions to help you get started. Keep in mind, this is primarily a sales position. You will have a lot to learn before your career turns you into a real advisor. Ameriprise is not a bad company; they are certainly way better than Primerica. One more word of advice for this industry. If you enter thinking of making lots of money, you will fail. If you enter with the desire to help people, and you keep at it long enough, you will help lots of people and make a very comfortable living. 5 years in the business. are you a person that likes a high pressure job that is very demanding and does not reward mistakes well -- if so go for big fellow - if not step back and regroup. It is an OK company to start with and learn the business. It used to be part of American Express, and they target investors, generally large ones, and you would be selling securities. Use it as a learning experience and to build your resume as there are much better firms you can move to. |
