How do you go about becoming a financial advisor?

How do you go about becoming a financial advisor?

You can just start offering advice :)
To be a certified financial planner(CFP) you would need to take classes and pass test.
CPAs are also financial advisers for that you need a degree in accounting, passing test and experience. Source(s): I was a CPA
Without education , save your money and then buy piece of property ,sell and buy another one
Educated study business management
At the very minimum get a certified financial planner designation. A CPA is the ultimate financial adviser.

To be a good financial advisor..you have to have money right?? Whos is going to take financial advice from a poor struggling sales person?

You need to be exceptionally strong in sales, customer service and relationship building. If you are not a people person, forget it.
An advisor is legally someone not employed by a brokerage house, who's on their own or with a small independent firm.

CFP and MBA are good places to start. Interning with a brokerage house or advisor firm while you learn the business is a good start. You will need to know about legal compliance from the ground up, and you could intern in that as a specialty while you go to school, or you could get trained in back office work (admin/clerical, generating reports, research) while you get your degree. Insurance and related things are also a thing to look at.
Pass the Series 7 and 66 exams and have a college degree. That's pretty much it. You need an employer to sponsor you.
You dont need sponsoship from a company but it saves you money. but get your series 6 or 7 (7 would be better, but is a more difficult test). You dont need a degree but it helps. If you have any type of sales experience it should be pretty easy to get into a firm. Its a pure commission based salary anyway. So companies will hire you and not be risking much at all.
