How old do you have to be as a insurance agent? |
i live in mississippi and i dont know if the age varys from state to state Likely it does - but you DO have to be 18. Source(s): agent, 21+ years Each state individually licenses and regulates Insurance Producer laws, however, they are still held to the Federal statutes as well. I don't know that there would even be a definite age "threshold" defined in the Insurance Producer licensing statues, simply because it's not the LICENSE that most 16 year old people have their heart set on obtaining! Legally speaking though, your signature is not legally recognized until you reach the defined age of majority. (18 in most states) So you would not be able to obtain an Insurance Producers License until then. Hope this helps!! I'm an industry insider!! Go to the state site, type in insurance agents in the search engine and what is required should pop up. You need to be 18, but I believe for securities/financial products they ask that you be 21. Some insurance agencies will pay for licensing. You could call a local insurance agent, preferably Allstate or AAA and ask them. They will feel flattered. I am licensed in Arkansas. Our laws are 18, but some states want 25. I know it's strange. Good luck and stick with it. The test is not that bad. and its pretty awesome job...especially if you like to travel. |
