Pro rata, I dont get it.? |
please explain how i work out a job thats based on pro rata. I never understood this, just bluffed my way. lol Dictionary Definition: pro ra路ta (pr艒 r膩't蓹, r盲'-, r膩t'蓹) Pronunciation Key adv. In proportion, according to a factor that can be calculated exactly. My definition: Pro rata, when it comes to jobs, generally refers to pay. Say the salary is '$40,000 per annum - pro rata', it will mean that if you only work part time, you get part of the pay. A standard week is (about) 40 hours, so the pay for 20 hours will be $20,000 per annum. Same with holiday allowance etc - the holiday allowance for someone who works fulltime will be (for example) 20 days (= 160 hours based on an 8 hour day). If you work only 20 hours per week, you'll get 80 hours holiday etc etc. So pro rata is basically giving a proportion equalivant to your circumstances. It sounds like it involves some sort of production or sales quota and you will be paid based on how much you produce or how much you sell. If you don't want to appear dumb, just ask them to explain how the pro rata rate affects your compensation. It is a reasonable question and frankly, you shouldn't take the job unless you really understand it. Many things like this don't end up being as wonderful as the people offering it claim. Good luck and God Bless. "Pro rata" work is work you get paid for based on how much actual work you did: for instance, an hourly worker being paid "pro rata" and clocking in and out each day will be paid for exactly the number of hours the clock shows she actually worked, not the hours she was supposed to be there. If you worked at a widget factory, you might get paid per widget, rather than for the hours you were there... Vacation days might also be calculated "pro rata", you start the year off with none, and accrue 1 day leave after each 12 days you work. |
