Question about working as a teller in a bank? |
I have six years experience in a Credit Union as a teller. My credit fell to 596 after quitting my job, but I paid off two CC today. Do banks run credit checks if you work for them? If so would my score keep me from employment? Yes, banks usually check credit during the hiring process. However, they do not pull the credit report that shows the beacon (credit) score. The beacon is supposed to be used for lending purposes as it indicates the level of risk. When the bank pulls the credit report, they look to see if you have had any collections, judgments, bankruptcies, and delinquencies, and whether they were resolved. If any are outstanding or recent (like a bankruptcy in the past 3-4 years), then your chances of employment with a bank are not that good. Bank HR departments really don't look at the number of open accounts and their balances (unless there are A LOT). They run credit checks so that they can weed out anyone who would be more likely to steal money to cover debts. Your score sounds good to me, but each bank will have its own preference. Yes they do, but the second poster is correct they do not see your score. It's not that bad anyway. With your experience I would not worry about it. They are looking for judgments, tax liens, child support, law suits, collections, bankruptcy's repossessions the type of things that show up in the public records section of your report. Finance Manager for over 7-years. In Canada it is the law to do a credit check on a candidate before hiring in the financial industry. It does not sound to me like your score will be a hindrance. I work for a bank. |
