I have about three years of accounting work experience, including bookkeeping, an audit internship, tax work, etc. etc. and am going to grad school this fall. I recently decided Cost Accounting seems like something I would like and the pay is not bad. All the positions I found listed online require years of experience in cost accounting.. So where does one start?
Many factories' offices have entry level positions in Cost Accounting. I worked with a man who purposely worked on the factory floor to finance his education. When he got his degree he transferred into the office (Cost Accounting Dept). I agree with him. My friend worked at Timberland Headquarters and temped there for a while until a job opened up as a cost accountant. He makes around $45,000 a year to start.
