Collections positions...?

I live in the Middletown, Oh area. I have been in collections for about 20 years. As it turns out, I have had to take jobs that are always far away such as downtown Cinci or even Northern KY. I need at least 15-16 an hour to meet my financial needs. Quite frankly I am just burned out with the long drives and I want to find something no more than 30 minutes from home. I would love to go no further south than Sharonville or no further north than the Dayton Mall area. I am also looking for first shift hours. I am a good collector and have no issues where I am now. I just need something closer to home as 20 years of an hour drive or more needs to come to an end. I review Career Builders nightly and it seems to be the same $11.00 an hour ads over and over. I would love a good company close to home that will pay for experience and not offer a low wage with promises of bonuses.

I've been a bill collector for 35 years and up until 2002, never had a problem getting a job. Now, it's a whole different ball game. I must of sent over 500 resumes in 60 days with no response. I'm 63 and decided I had enough of the rat race. I live in Philly and most adds that I see are from agencies. If it wasn't for my wifes' job, i'd be in a lot of trouble. Best of luck.
I was in Collections for 11 years before I moved. Then I went into Workforce Development for many years. So I pretty well know where you're coming from.

Here's my suggestion: We know that just about every Company has need of someone in A/R to do collections. It's a given in business. I would search for something in your area, taking this into consideration. There must be several national concerns in your area. A really good place to start is in County Government for your local County Hospital. Or, for any hospital in your area. Medical collections are always there.

My problem was that the Agency I worked for just flat out didn't want to pay anything.

You know, you could go into business for yourself, you have the years of experience and the contacts to do it. This is something that should be given due consideration.

Good luck in whatever direction you choose.
