What is the best way to land an i-banking job without ANY finance/modeling/valuatio... knowledge? get some of that knowledge Find someone who knows someone who works in the field and ask them for an introduction. You're not going to be able to fax over a resume and be offered a VP of banking job by a multinational bank. You'll have to start small, probably extremely small. Volunteer your services for a few weeks on the side and let the person know that you really want to learn the business but you know that you don't have any experience. Everyone is willing to help someone gain knowledge, especially if they also have a volunteer worker. Just make sure you spell out exactly how long the volunteer position would work out, and clarify your prospects for a paid position, even if it's still on the side. Within a few months, you'll gain the basics and be able to grasp the big picture of the industry. Possibly after 6 months to a year, you can use your experience to apply for a more full-time, permanent position. You'll have gained the finance/modeling/valuation knowledge and be qualified for a real position. Going back to school would also help, but experience is a lot cheaper than education. And when your f@!*ing MD/director/VP continues to do reiteration after reiteration of the same pitchbook, it will make you want to jump off a cliff (or out the office building).
