I have two years of business school so far and have been working in construction the last couple years because i just cant seem to break into the business. i would prefer to get work experience before i go back to school. Is there any specific training or something, i could get to help get my foot in the door. Or does anyone have experience changing careers that would help?
You might want to check with your local accountancy organization. i would get my MBA in Business, or work towards it. if an employer sees MBA on your resume its def a good thing If you want to become a bonafide accountant you will need to obtain a degree in that field or with at least 24 credit hours of accounting from an accredited college or business school. Most government agencies have entry level positions at the ground floor starting off as an accounting clerk in a particular department. You should start your search on USAJobs.com in a city of your choice. Maybe you could do some on the job training with your current company as a back-up accounts payable. You could sign up for an online accounts training program. There are quite a few options on the internet but do your research and ask lots of questions before paying for these courses and make sure you can get a certification from them. If you every had your own business which requires you to do a little bookkeeping (accounts payable, accounts receivable, etc) all deals with accounting, that is your experience. I wish you the best in your career endeavor.
