What is it like working for one of the Big Four Accounting firms? |
I'm graduating this year. Somebody told me that working for the Big Four is a lot of work. Is that true? I would like to stay around 40-50 hours per week. I don't want to be asked to work weekends and what not, unless I'm getting overtime. i am impress with how you know the ideals of your chosen career. i do not want to dissapoint you, but as someone starting off a career. youve got to hear this. it is true that little less known accounting firms are more lenient when it comes to working hours and other methods that the office runs. compared to the moguls of the industry where you are expected to be like an "on call doctor" at times. just expect the worse and hope for the best. you are just starting anyway and the hard work will be on you. (believe me). nobody started at the top on the way to success. Source(s): best of luck! Well Ive heard the Big Four firms overwork you as much as humanly possibly. But if youre willing to work 50 hours a week, it might not be too bad. But I wouldnt hope for the overtime. In public accounting, you'll be working weekends Jan-April every year you are in public accounting-not sure if they pay OT or comp time or bonus or nothing. Even working for a a private corporation, If something needs to be done, you work Saturday and if you're salary, there won't be overtime. That's the reality to accounting work. Also, forget about taking vacation time at the beginning of any month (monthly closing). Whatever type of work you do (accounting or otherwise), you work the hours required and you don't b*tch about if you want to keep your job. |
