Should I get my MBA?

I currently work for a big 4 CPA firmin their Tax Department. Undergrad was in Accounting and have already taken and passed my CPA. I am 2 years out of college (24 years old) and discovering that I would like a different career path. Still in consulting, corporate finance, or financial services. Would getting a MBA in finance be a good way to go while keeping my job and pursuing other opportunities after graduation? Would having a CPA and MBA look attractive to employers for non-accounting type jobs?

Very attractive! Better yet your employer will probably pay for your MBA if you choose to go part time. Keep in mind a CPA is as good as gold to many employers in the accounting and finance industry, so unless you have time time to commit you may not necessarily need to get an MBA.
On the other hand an MBA will take you critical decision making and will round you out. My wife has a similar background to you. She works in the Big 4 and has her MBA. Most of her friends also have their MBA's. Source(s): Work in finance and have an MBA
Most definitely. The combination of CPA, MBA and Big 4 experience, your resume will be very attractive to a lot of employers.

Any of the Big 4 will likely help you with the tuition if you stay with them. You may also want look into 1-year program like the ones at Stanford or MIT. 1-year program means smaller opportunity cost for both you and your employer. Many corporations sponsor their employees to 1-year programs.

Best wishes.
Yes, it would be attractive and open doors for you. I started out with an accounting/finance undergrad, got my CPA and then got my MBA. Switiching career paths (out of taxation/accounting and into broader finance positions, particularly those requiring managerial skills) is a good reason to get an MBA. I would HIGHLY advise you to get your MBA in an executive program so that you can continue working up the corporate ladder and have your current firm pay for your degree. You can play the Big 4 card as profiling yourself when applying. All MBA programs want a diverse mix of students, and they like to have some CPAs. If you are privileged enough to have a diverse ethnic background, then I would incorporate that too -- seriously, diversity is an asset, particularly in an increasingly international business world. An MBA will also break through the stereotype that some employees may have of CPAs. It will give your resume some further dimensions, as some people view CPAs as being stodgy beancounters without creativity or competitive nature.
