First time as a waiter .. Need help? and advices?

I just got a job as a waiter and can anyone help me out with some real personal tips on some events how to greet... small talk. jokes .. and like overall process of waiting a table. thank you =)

I did it for years. The main thing to remember is always maintain your composure, even if one particular customer is pissing you off, your extremely busy etc. Once your guests lose confidence in you it is almost impossible to get it back.

Make the most out of each trip to the kitchen, server station, bar and floor. The idea is to think of your section as one big table. Example, if you are bringing iced tea refills back out to Table A and you are walking by the kitchen, check to see if Table B's food is ready.

Alot of servers think that the more tables they can take in a shift is the measure of how good they are. Dont fall into that. The only true measure is how much $ your table are giving you on a % basis. I guarantee you that the person that earns $120 on $600 of sales will always do a better job than the person who makes $120 on $800 of sales.

You will give stellar service to some people and only receive a %10 tip. That is going to happen. Do not let it get to you. If you are consistently providing timely service and you have a pleasant disposition the tips will be there.

Great way to impress people is to anticipate things that they are going to ask for. If you see someones drink is full and it is early or mid way through their visit. Go ahead and refill their drink if your establishment offers free refills. People love it when you can anticipate things before they ask for it because it shows that you care.

Above all, just be yourself and be relaxed. You can move fast and get things done expeditiously and still have a relaxed composure. Dont discuss religion, politics, or sexual oriented speech with your guests because it is completely inappropriate even if they initiate it.

You will do awesome. It is a great way to make money while you are in school or some other transitional part of your life
T.I.P.S. stands for To Insure Prompt Service. Remember that guests want prompt, courteous service. Give them what they want and then some. The more they see you (even if your just walking by the table making eye contact), the more they think you are there for them so refill their drinks as often as possible. Be happy and smile, you don't want to seem like you are burdened by their visit.
Everything previously stated and
SMILE!!!
